Each ammonite has been cut in half and polished.
You receive 1 pair / both matching halves.
The assorted size of the ammonite are all apx 3/8" to 3/4" at the widest point x 1/16" to 1/8" thick (one half) , some may be a bit larger or slightly smaller.
Sold by the individual pair. Pictures are an example to show the variety of shapes and styles, although there are some color variations from pair to pair.. pulled at random.
Ammonite are related to squid, octopus, and belemnites.
They grew to a length of 15 centimeters (6 inches) in diameter and often smaller than 5 centimeters (2 inches) in diameter and fed upon small animals.
Ammonite become extinct at the end of the Permian some 251.4 million years ago.
The ammonite all possessed an external shell, which is divided internally into chambers.
The animal lived in the largest of the external chambers, and the internal chambers would have been filled with gas, making the animal buoyant in the water.
They possessing a head with two well developed eyes and arms (or tentacles).
As they died their shells accumulated on the ocean floor and would become covered by sediments which transformed into stone over the ages.
