Orthoceras are ancestors to the modern day squid.
They grew to a length of 15 centimeters (6 inches) and fed upon small animals.

The assorted size of the Orthoceras range from apx apx 1" L x 1/2" W to 1 3/4" L x 5/8" W.
They could swim as well as crawl on the ocean floor.
They would filling the chambers in their shells with air which allowed them to float through the seas and they would propelling themselves by squirting jets of water.
As they died their shells accumulated on the ocean floor and would become covered by sediments which transformed into stone over the ages.
